Osteoporosis

The progressive decrease in bone mineral density, which begins as osteopenia, and may progress to osteoporosis. Advanced cases of osteoporosis can result in osteoporitic compression fractures of the spinal vertebra and predispose to more fractures in the event of a fall or injury. It is well documented that high intensity load bearing exercises can prevent progression and also improve bone mineral density, thereby reducing the risk of fractures.
